“Skateboarding challenges me and helps clear my mind at the same time,” says professional skater and artist Nora Vasconcellos (@noravexplora ). ”There is no better feeling than riding away from that trick knowing you put so much energy and effort into doing it.”⁣ ⁣ “It has always been difficult to be taken seriously as a female skateboarder,” explains Nora. “I always wanted to be seen the same way and taken as seriously as the men are. I wanted to travel and create products like the men. I wanted to be put on the same pedestal as male professional skaters.⁣ ⁣ I hope watching me skate inspires you to go out and do something that makes you feel good.”⁣ ⁣ Video by @noravexplora

For comedian Jes Tom (@jesthekid ), #TransDayOfVisibility is about trans and nonbinary people sharing their experiences and celebrating each other. 🏳️‍⚧️⁣ ⁣ But Jes also knows that although trans joy is real, so are the things that threaten it. “It’s easy to think that trans visibility equals trans rights, when, as we can see from the ongoing debate over healthcare for trans youth here in the US, trans rights are in jeopardy right now.”⁣ ⁣ “Trans people are extremely diverse, and we have different needs depending on different factors. However, we all deserve free access to healthcare.”⁣ ⁣ For resources and ways to help, check out @trevorproject and @glaad . #ShareWithPride⁣ ⁣ Video by @jesthekid

I like comfortable compositions and balanced energy,” says Beijing-born, London-based fashion design student Yang Yue (@a1jewel ). “I specialize in bio textiles [materials grown from live microorganisms] and do makeup and other face decorations as a hobby. Makeup is my ASMR. It’s just a way for me to release pressure.”⁣ ⁣ Her inkblot-like, abstract MUA looks (@a1jewel0310 ) draw heavily on her Chinese heritage. “It is embedded in my aesthetic,” she explains. “I am looking for the painterly component in digital animation,” says artist Dirk Koy (@dirkkoy ), who runs a motion design and experimental film studio. ⁣ ⁣ Dirk embraces different technologies, including drones, 3D animation, photogrammetry, AR and VR, to create his experimental digital images. ⁣ ⁣ “I am interested in exploring a shape and working out different ways it can be represented and perceived,” he says. “I really love the edgy shapes of this beautiful car. And I was super curious about what digital manipulations I could do with it. I thought it would be fantastic to develop a great 80s sound to it. I realized that the pitch bend distortion of the sound fits very well with the visual distortion.” ⁣ ⁣ Video by @dirkkoy
POV: you’re someone who studies diseases for a living. As an epidemiologist, Jessica Malaty Rivera (@jessicamalatyrivera ) knows a lot about COVID-19 and the vaccines to fight it. “Being fearful of the virus, the data, and even the vaccines is a completely normal response. I want people to know that after spending a year analyzing devastating COVID-19 data, that these vaccines not only exceeded our expectations for efficacy, they are also very safe. The benefits of vaccination far outweigh any possible risk. This virus is cruel. And we finally have a tool in our toolkit to beat it.” That tool also means the end is in sight. “This pandemic will not last forever. The most important things people can do is to keep your risk low. That means: wear your masks, practice physical distancing, avoid indoor/large gatherings and get vaccinated as soon as it’s your turn.” For more reliable info about COVID-19 and vaccine safety, check out the COVID-19 Information Center at our link in bio.
